The Barber of Seville by Rossini

Sinopsis

“The Barber of Seville” (Ilbarbiere di Siviglia) is a two-act buff opera with music by Gioachino Rossini and a libretto in Italian by Cesare Sterbini, based on the comedy of the same name (1775) by Pierre-Augustin de Beaumarchais. The premiere (under the title Almaviva, or useless caution) took place on February 20, 1816, at the Teatro Argentina in Rome. It was one of the first Italian operas that were performed in the United States of America, premiering there at the Park Theater in New York on November 29, 1825. Rossini's Barber has proven to be one of the great masterpieces of comedy within music. Even after two hundred years, its popularity in the modern opera scene attests to its greatness. The plot tells the adventures of a couple in love made up of the count of Almaviva and the young orphan Rosina. Bartolo, preceptor of the girl, wants her despite the age difference. To avoid this, the couple uses the help of the barber Figaro, who with tricks decieves Bartolo. The Barber of Seville will be under the direction of Maestro Enrique Patron de Rueda, with successful opera singers and the Camerata Mazatlan. Direction: Enrique Patron de Rueda
