Camerata Mazatlán

Camerata Mazatlán is a professional high quality musical organization directed by Percival Álvarez, musician, pedagogue and conductor, whose name is a symbol of prestige in the concert halls of Mexico and other countries.

His musicians have been invited to play with the most prestigious orchestras in Mexico and abroad. Memorable performances have been alongside great international figures such as baritone José Adán Pérez, Susana Zabaleta, Roberto “Betuco” Arballo, the Italian-Italian soprano Filippa Giordano and Héctor Ortiz, among others.

Among its members there are instrumentalists from Mexico, Venezuela and Russia with professional studies and a master’s degree in music from important schools and national and international conservatories such as the Juilliard School in New York and the Conductors Institute at Bard College in New York.

Since its launch in May 2006, its main letter of introduction has been the virtuosity, sensitivity and musical knowledge of the members in each of its performances where it is possible to listen from Baroque music to great works of the contemporary period.

The chamber music organization has been invited to participate in important festivals in Mexico and its concerts as well as to promote the cultured music, in addition to the high-level artistic production of the Municipality of Mazatlán generated from the Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art of Mazatlan.

In addition to sensitizing the community through events that favor the approach to concert music, semi-classical and popular, the Camerata Mazatlán contributes to form new audiences for the enjoyment of the arts through concerts for children and young people.

As a formal group, it presents an annual program of concerts within the most important festivals of the city and has accompanied important figures of the national and international stage and various artistic groups of the Municipal Arts Center of Mazatlan.

Maestro Percival Álvarez, its director, has musical studies at the National School of Music of the UNAM, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Autonomous University of Querétaro, the Conductors Institute of Bard College in New York and in Barcelona, ​​Spain.

His main masters in orchestral direction include international personalities such as Jorge Mester, Sergio Cárdenas, Antoni Ros-Marbá, Harold Farberman, Jorma Panula and Jordi Mora.

He has directed the National Symphony Orchestra, the Orford Festival Orchestra in Quebec, Canada; the Symphony of the Vallés (Catalonia), Orchestra of the Opera of Fine Arts, Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Mexico, Philharmonic of the State of Querétaro, Symphonic Orchestra Sinaloa of the Arts, Symphony of the University of Tamaulipas, Philharmonic of Jalisco, Carlos Symphony Chavez, Chamber Orchestra of Fine Arts, Chamber Orchestra of the University of Michoacán, Youth Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico, Symphony Orchestra of Coyoacán and Chamber Orchestra of the Universidad Panamericana, among others.

Originally the Camerata Mazatlán was conceived as a string quintet composed of Olena Bogachuk (violin first), Alexander Alexeev (violin second), Ireneuz Kepka (Viola), Elena Bufani (cello) and Ali Alieev (double bass), but with the passing of the time the number of members grew.

The chamber music institution dominates works of various eras and authors. His public and private concerts include performances ranging from an instrument, to duets, trios, quartets and performances with more than 20 musicians.
