Guillermo Sarabia Choir

It was created in October 2007, with the aim of rescuing, promoting, disseminating and dignifying choral music. Its founding director was maestro Daniel Villegas.

In life Daniel Villegas was a scholar of the cultured music and put to the test his technique in the choral direction, while he worked diligently in the musical improvement of the young singers that make up the choir.

The repertoire includes baroque, classical and contemporary music, arrangements of Mexican and Latin American music.

Recently created the Chamber Choir Guillermo Sarabia aims to consolidate itself as a polyphonic group with its own identity and is governed by the values of respect, tolerance and teamwork. The name of the choir is inspired by the baritone Guillermo Sarabia (Mazatlán, Sinaloa, 1937 – Amsterdam, Holland, 1985). This Mazatleco was considered a great artist. He studied at the National School of Music, started his career as an opera singer in Germany and is considered the only genuine dramatic baritone that has produced Mexico.

Little recognized in the land that saw him born, Guillermo Sarabia tasted the honeys of triumph as lyric singer during his performances in Mexico and abroad; He triumphed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan in the 1976-1977 season, singing seven roles of the leading role in Wozzeck, by Berg. In the 1977-1978 season he played Renato in Un ballo in maschera and in 1979 he returned to sing Wozzeck again.

The Guillermo Sarabia Chamber Choir is composed of voices, most of the students of the Singing Degree of the Superior School of Music of the Municipal Arts Center of Mazatlan.

Its members can play melodies a capella or with instrumental accompaniment.

Since its foundation, this choir has been invited to participate in shows aimed at local, national and foreign audiences.
