José Limón Festival

The Festival Jose Limon was created in 1986 in order to promote and disseminate the figure and artistic legacy of José Limón in the State of Sinaloa. Founded on the initiative of Héctor Chávez, it boasts the presence of prominent creators and performers of contemporary dance at the national and international level.

The festival activities are carried out mainly in the Pablo de Villavicencio Theater, la Lumière Room and the Agora Rosario Castellanos de Culiacan; the Angela Peralta Theater of Mazatlan and the José Ángel Espinoza Ferrusquilla Theater in Los Mochis.

The José Limón Culiacan of Choreography and National Dance Awards are delivered in the framework of the festival. Exhibitions and presentations of books, the meeting of academies, a popular dance, artist residencies and assembly are performed with dancers from all over the country.

Its organization is supported by the Sinaloa Institute of Culture, the Municipal Institutes of Culture in Sinaloa, the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and CONACULTA, through the national coordination of dance of the National Institute of Fine Arts.
