Among friends, colleagues and Mazatlan readers, some secrets of “Jardín de Noche”, by the writer Fabio Morábito, winner of the Mazatlán Literature Prize 2025, were revealed during the book presentation on Friday night at Casa Haas.

The award-winning writer was at the table of honor surrounded by the members of this year’s jury, made up of writers Eve Gil, Braulio Peralta and Juan José Rodríguez, president, and Dr. Armida Llamas Estrada, General Secretary of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, representing the Rector Dr. Jesús Madueña. The conduction and welcome was by Enrique Vega Ayala, representing the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan.

Author Fabio Morábito was grateful for the opportunity to talk about his book “Jardín de Noche” and shared that the book was a gift to him, as it emerged during the pandemic, a period of isolation and reflection.

The award-winning writer expressed that the pandemic influenced his writing, inspiring him to create lonely female characters, in a garden at night, taking stock of their lives, protagonists who in some cases, seek revenge for a life that has left them unsatisfied.

Although he considers it difficult for an author to talk about his work, during the presentation at Casa Haas, Fabio Morábito tried to explain the deep impulses and motives that led him to write “Jardín de Noche.”

The author thanked the attendees for their presence and hoped that his readers would find the same captivating motives that led him to write the book.

Juan José Rodríguez introduced the winner of the Mazatlán Prize for Literature 2025, who this Saturday, February 22nd, during the Evening of the Arts, will receive the award and a prize of 100 thousand pesos provided by the Autonomous University of Sinaloa.

The Mazatlecan writer spoke about the importance of literary tradition and the influence of Italian culture in Mexican literature.

Before dozens of readers, he highlighted the connection between literature and the search for hidden truths and lies, and how literature can be a way to detect these truths.

Finally, Rodríguez invited the public to approach the work of Fabio Morábito and enjoy the opportunity to discover new truths and mysteries through literature.

Among the audience were the elected Queens of the Mazatlán International Carnaval 2025 “La Perla”, SGM Lucero I, Queen of the Carnaval, and SGM Desiré I, Queen of the Floral Games, who said that she had read this work, which she liked for its structure and because the woman is the protagonist in all the stories in the book.

In his participation, the writer and journalist Braulio Peralta mentioned that Morábito has ventured into practically all literary genres and has contributed an innovative as well as personal ingredient to each one.

Braulio Peralta highlighted that men do not count in the short and intense stories of Jardín de Noche and highlighted Fabio Morábito’s ability to create a universe where women are the protagonists and where stories and characters are intertwined, highlighting the focus on the female experience and the exploration of the themes that surround their lives.

Eve Gil, a member of the jury for the 2025 Mazatlán Literature Prize, stated that “With Jardín de Noche we witness the highest level of an author who has already earned an honorary place in Mexican literature, and in the memory of the most demanding readers.”

Gil highlighted the originality of the book’s structure, composed of twelve stories that intertwine and present a circular universe, where the protagonists range from the owner of the house to the maid. She also highlighted Morábito’s ability to create a poetic and evocative language, and her ability to surprise the reader with each story.

Dr. Armida Llamas stated that in Jardín de Noche, each story has its own personality and at the same time seems to be part of the same story, articulating itself in an ingenious narrative branch where women have the voice and the word, in a dialogue with their interior, with nature and darkness. Fortunately, this publication is an oasis of light, a place to rest the soul in special moments.”

“We are very pleased that his name is added to the list of writers who have received this recognition over 60 years. With respect and admiration, I propose a toast to our award winner and his Jardín de Noche. Long live writer Fabio Morábito, his prose, his stories and history. Long live the Mazatlán Literature Prize,” he said.

A round of questions and answers between the audience and the award-winning writer brought this literary encounter to a close.
