The mayor invited everyone to enjoy the Carnaval cast such as the presentation of the singers Jorge Medina and Josi Cuen, at the coronation of the King of Joy; Plácido Domingo on Friday, February 28th to celebrate the Centennial of the Floral Games; Grupo Firme, at the Coronation of the Queen and Alejandro Sanz, guest artist at the children’s coronation. Raúl Rico referred to the motto of this year’s Carnaval, and shared his vision of what it represents for Mazatlán.
The motto “The Pearl” exalts the pride of the city that the pearls of the American Pacific have carried Mazatlán in their name since the last century, for this reason we proclaim to the world that our city is “The Pearl of the Pacific”, for the pride of the Mazatlecans.
In response to a question from host Vanessa Claudio, the Director of Cultura responded that the Quema de Map Humor, a Carnaval tradition, is a mass event, preceded by a procession in which thousands of people witness the burning of a cardboard representation that symbolizes the destruction of worries, to make way for joy in the city.
Finally, Ricardo Raúl Villavicencio thanked the guests for their presence and highlighted their willingness to “open a window to the world so they can learn more about Mazatlán…. You’ll see, we’re going to make it more beautiful!”.
