In the month dedicated to children, this Saturday, April 5th, at 6:00 p.m., the film “My Friend, Robot” (2023), directed by Spanish filmmaker Pablo Berger, will be presented at the Marco Lugo Cinema of the Municipal Arts Center. The film was nominated for the 2024 Oscar in the Best Animated Feature Film category.
“My Robot Friend” is a heartwarming and emotional animated film based on the graphic novel “Robot Dreams” by American illustrator Sara Varon, which won several awards at festivals such as the Goya Awards, Annie Awards, Alma Awards, and the European Film Festival, among others. It was produced with a budget of €5 million.
Set in a nostalgic 1980s New York, the story follows Dog, a lonely dog who decides to build a robot to fill the void in his life. Together they share moments of joy and friendship in the city, exploring parks, enjoying music, and experiencing adventures.
However, an unexpected event separates the friends, leaving Dog with a profound sense of loss and teaching him the value of memories and resilience.
Its message about the transience of life, dealing with profound themes such as friendship, loneliness, the passage of time, and the inevitability of change, makes it accessible for children but equally moving for adults. Admission to this screening is free, with limited seating. It begins at 6:00 PM and opens 20 minutes beforehand at the main entrance to the CMA, located on Calle Carnaval S/N at Plazuela Machado.
