On the evening of May 9th, the eve of Mother’s Day, the majestic Ángela Peralta Theater hosted an unforgettable evening with the concert “Waltzes and Danzones,” presented by the Camerata Mazatlán under the direction of maestro Sergio Freeman. This event was a display of musical virtuosity and a complete cultural experience that celebrated the richness of international classical music and the jewels of the Mexican repertoire.

The carefully curated program included pieces by world-renowned composers such as Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, and Johan Strauss Jr., along with iconic works by Mexican composers such as Arturo Márquez, Juventino Rosas, and Enrique Mora, whose waltzes and danzones captivated the audience with their originality, elegance, and profound melodic beauty. Each performance was a testament to the extremely high artistic level of Camerata Mazatlán, consolidating its position as one of Mexico’s most distinguished chamber ensembles.

One of the concert’s greatest achievements was the inclusion of students from the Instituto de Cultura’s Music School, who were given the opportunity to play with renowned musicians.

The participation of the Ballet Folklórico of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan added an immersive stage dimension to the musical performances. With elegant costumes and meticulously synchronized choreography, the dancers revived the splendor of Viennese and Mexican folk salons. The connection between musicians and dancers was organic, vibrant, and successfully transported the audience to different eras and geographies.

Special mention should be made of the final interaction between the dancers and the audience, when, to the rhythm of the danzón, they joined the audience in the theater aisles, transforming the evening into a lively, shared celebration, full of closeness and tradition.

The Camerata, with its precise and sensitive delivery, received numerous standing ovations. The audience enthusiastically requested an encore of Enrique Mora’s “Vals Alejandra,” one of the most moving pieces of the evening. And it was with Carlos Gardel’s “Por una Cabeza” that the concert closed with a flourish, leaving everyone with a smile and their hearts filled with nostalgia and emotion.
This memorable concert was made possible thanks to the vision and commitment of the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlan, which continues to support a program that honors the talent of Mexican composers and enriches the city’s cultural life with world-class performances.
