The “Cultura in Motion” program began today with a moving ribbon-cutting at Francisco Madero Herrera Elementary School, located in the Santa Fe neighborhood. This artistic project, promoted by the Mazatlán government through the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte, was created to bring art and culture beyond traditional spaces.

During the inauguration, the young students gathered on the school’s field and received classes in drawing, painting, literature, contemporary dance, and music guidance aboard the flagship Cultura in Motion bus, equipped with air conditioning, computers, a projector, and a screen for viewing and showing bibliographic materials and artistic activities.

The ceremony was led by the Mayor of Mazatlán, Estrella Palacios Domínguez; Raúl Rico González, General Director of the Institutonde Cultura de Mazatlan; Liliana Aréchiga Pérez, Educational Director of the Municipal Arts Center; Yadira Carreón Flores, Principal of Francisco Madero Elementary School; Fabiola Verde Rosas, Director of the Municipal Sports Institute; and Fabiola Osuna Patrón, Director of Citizen Services.

“Cultura in Motion” was created with the goal of reaching remote communities using schools as meeting points. The literature, theater, visual arts, contemporary dance, and music dynamics will be led by Municipal Library staff and undergraduate and technical program students from the Instituto de Cultura. The next stops of “Cultura in Motion” will be on May 16 and 23 in the Valles del Ejido neighborhood and on June 6th, 13th, and 20th in Pradera Dorada.

Prior to the inauguration, Mayor Estrella Palacios reiterated her support for culture, art, and sports, fundamental pillars of the Transformational Government.

She highlighted the importance of art as a transformative, inspiring force, and a generator of social connections beyond traditional spaces. She announced that the goal is to offer 900 cultural performances, not only in theaters and museums, but also in neighborhoods and municipal governments.

Liliana Aréchiga also spoke about the importance of working in schools to sow the seeds of art. She emphasized that the CMA offers tools for teachers to effectively integrate artistic activities into their classrooms and announced the opening of applications for the formation of children’s choirs in schools.

Art is important for the comprehensive development of children and young people because it fosters essential skills such as commitment, discipline, concentration, creativity, perseverance, and teamwork, she stated.

“Cultura in Motion” aims to promote a more critical and proactive society through diverse artistic practices, fostering curiosity and opening up a range of possibilities for students’ futures, whether as artists or in any other profession, she concluded.

Yadira Carreón, Principal of Francisco Madero Herrera Elementary School, expressed her gratitude: “It’s of utmost importance for this, your home… that you look to us, because in this context, there are children with many dreams, eager to succeed,” she said.

Raúl Rico González, General dmDirector of CULTURA, commented that “Cultura en Movimiento” joins other programs such as Cineratura, the Memory Recording Workshop, and Qué León Es, as well as music workshops in municipal public libraries and rural communities, with the purpose of sharing artistic expressions with new audiences.

“Cultura is always dynamic, always changing, always moving… We want to reach out to you, allow you to come together to explore topics other than what we’re normally accustomed to, to discuss, to talk, to contribute to each other’s work, which is exactly what we need as a society,” he shared.
