In the Benito Juárez neighborhood, amid shelves filled with stories and windows that let in light, men and women gathered at the Carlos McGregor Library to participate in the “Record of Memories” workshop, a space dedicated to personal writing, the recovery of the past, and emotional expression through writing.

Led by Literature student Johanna, this workshop is part of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan’s Spring season 2025 and seeks to open an intimate dialogue with the participants’ memories.

During each session, creative and autobiographical writing exercises are explored, allowing attendees to capture their most cherished memories, struggles, and moments of transformation.

In the initial session, emotions surfaced in a friendly atmosphere, where the seniors shared their childhood anecdotes, family traditions, and episodes that forged their identity. The library, decorated with butterflies and open books evoking freedom, was the perfect setting for the words to come alive.

Johanna, with sensitivity and clarity, guided the activities, promoting active listening, respect for the diversity of experiences, and recognition of the value of collective memory. She emphasized that this workshop is a powerful tool for leaving a mark.

The workshop will continue on Tuesdays, May 13th, 20th, and 27th at this same location, and in June will move to the Biblioteca de los Leones in Mazatlán’s Historic Center. Sessions begin at 4:30 p.m. and are free for the entire community.

An Open Invitation

The Instituto de Cultura, Turism, y Arte de Mazatlan invites the public to join this journey of introspection and legacy. Because every story matters, and every shared memory enriches us as a society.
