The magic of the play “Pippa Longstockings,” starring students from the Mazatlán Classical Ballet School, provided a morning of inspiration and joy for hundreds of children and young people from the port city. They attended the Ángela Peralta Theater for the first time, sparking in some of them an interest in entering the world of the arts.
Coming from different neighborhoods in the port city, such as Colonia Huertos Familiares, Juan Carrasco, Casa Blanca, Centro, Villas del Sol, and from rural areas such as El Walamo, Mármol, and Ejido El Conchi, students from preschool, elementary, and middle school were fascinated by the adventures of the friendly Pippa.
On her first visit to the Ángela Peralta Theater, Keysha Yamileth Gómez, a student from General Juan Carrasco Elementary School, said the play was beautiful. Her favorite act was “Pirates and Apaches,” which inspired her to quickly become a ballet dancer.
Mirna Ibarra Guzmán, a teacher at General Juan Carrasco Elementary School, said the play was sensational and left her colleagues feeling very happy because a former student was participating, something that fills them with pride.
Committed to the comprehensive education of his students, César Toledo, a teacher at Federal Secondary School #8, thanked the Mazatlán Institute of Culture for producing and presenting these shows for the healthy entertainment of children and youth.
“I think these are important activities to bring culture to the entire municipality. We hope these types of events and cultural initiatives continue to be held more frequently. The young people leave happy because (coming to the theater) is a new experience for many of them.”
Teacher Martha Delia Corrales, from the Domingo Carballo Félix Kindergarten, said it was a very meaningful experience for the children, as they learned about the art of dance, and it’s very important for them to acquire that knowledge and, above all, to experience it!
“It’s not just that we as teachers teach them in the classroom; with this activity, they put it into practice. I hope there are more invitations like this, and we ask the Department of Cultura to invite us to have more experiences like this,” she reiterated.
Ivana, a student at the “Niños Héroes” School, morning shift, said she liked Pippa Longstockings because it was very entertaining and a beautiful story. She commented that her parents told her it was great that she went to the theater. After seeing the ballet, she liked the idea of being a dancer, as the message it left her was that Pippa is a good girl and has a lot of imagination.
Rosa Albina García Camacho, a teacher at the “Niños Héroes” Elementary School in El Walamo, said she found the children very entertained watching the play because it was something new for them, as they come from a community outside the city. These types of activities excite children and foster a love of culture, she said.
Carlos Saúl, a student at Federal Secondary School No. 8, liked everything about it. He really liked the music. His family told him that going to the theater is about learning more, and he is proud of everything he saw at the Ángela Peralta Theater.
