Students from the Mazatlán Professional Dance School performed brilliantly at the José Limón International Dance Festival during the performance of “Epiphanies,” where they showcased their artistic talents in front of hundreds of spectators at the Ángela Peralta Theater.

On a night where body language was the only means of expression, the dancers took advantage of this opportunity to communicate their creative process, supported on stage by images, lights, music, and the poetics of the body and movement.

More than 20 EPDM students from different levels participated in “Epiphanies,” some as soloists, others in ensembles of two, three, and four, and concluded the evening with a group of more than 10 dancers who earned applause from the audience.

The enigmatic performance, full of premieres, began with the piece “The Absence That Sustains Me,” performed and created by Paola Sánchez, with music by CoH, Cosey Fanni Tutti, and choreographic assistance by Víctor Manuel Ruiz.
The program continued with “Viscera, Tears, and Blush,” performed and created by Camila Ornelas, Mariam Rojas, and Ariadne Burgos, with assistance from Xitlali Piña.
With “Conticinio,” a work by choreographers Valeria Najar and Pablo Cortés (Nito Cortés), performed by the co-author, the dancers shined on stage, mastering a body language that required no oral interpreters.

A reflection on the celestial realm of this astral plane was the piece “Amen,” where the dance troupe comprised of Ángel David Flores Romero, Andrés Felipe de los Ríos Valens, Valentina Martin Triana, and Karla Citlaly performed Nathalí Aragón Castro’s creation.

“Sun and Moon” was one of the most applauded pieces of the evening, where performers Nathalí Aragón and Daniel Trujillo portrayed the sun and the Earth’s natural satellite; the lighting allowed for a cosmic dance on stage.

Arat Amaru starred in “Coagular,” and to conclude the evening was “The Forest of Forgotten Fairies,” a piece by choreographer Surasí Lavalle, performed by Valeria Nájar, Arantza Rosales, Andrea Mendoza, Regina Nieto, Alhelí Madera, Montserrat Camacho, Pablo Cortes, Mextli Ha Reyes, Valeria Q. Pérez, Mariam Rojas, Ariadne Burgos, and Camila Ornelas.
