Mazatlán is preparing for a night of fantasy and sweetness with the staging of the ballet Hansel and Gretel, a choreographic gem that will take to the stage of the Ángela Peralta Theater on June 13th and 14th at 8:00 p.m. Students from the Municipal School of Classical Ballet and dancers from the Mazatlán Ballet Company will participate in this production, which promises to be an unforgettable celebration of art, family, and children’s imagination.

The story of Hansel and Gretel, by the Brothers Grimm, tells the adventure of two siblings who, abandoned in a forest, discover a chocolate house inhabited by a witch. Their intelligence, courage, and brotherly love ultimately lead them to freedom. It is a story that has transcended centuries and borders for its symbolism and teachings.

Behind this enchanting dance version are renowned maestro Zoila Fernández, Director of the EMBC, and prestigious Cuban choreographer Eduardo Blanco, a disciple of the legendary dancer Alicia Alonso, who shared his deep connection with this work in an interview:

“This ballet was presented from 2004 to 2010 at the Hamilton Theater in Ontario, Canada. It has always been a work dedicated to the family, a space to share and reconnect with the beauty of performance art away from the hustle and bustle of technology,” the maestro expressed.

UNICEF in Cuba recognized Eduardo Blanco for the creation of this production, highlighting it as a show made “for and by children.” The ballet version of Hansel and Gretel enchants not only with its story, but also with the active participation of the true protagonists: the children of the Mazatlán Classical Ballet School, who with dedication, grace, and discipline bring the story’s beloved characters to life in this performance that concludes the school year.

An experience for all the senses

Hansel and Gretel unfolds in two acts, with a special musical selection from three great composers, whose repertoire envelops the audience in a dreamlike atmosphere, guided by a clear narrative, colorful scenery, and impeccable choreography.

“Ballet is an opportunity for families to reconnect, for children to recognize themselves in art. This show is an invitation to put down their cell phones for a while and let themselves be carried away by the music, dance, and story we all carry in our hearts,” concluded Blanco, thanking maestra Zoila Fernández for the invitation to collaborate with the Mazatlán Ballet School.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience ballet through the eyes of a child. Tickets for $350, $300, $250, and $200 pesos, are available at the Angela Peralta Theater box office or online at 669 120 00 20.
