The Fugitive

Sinopsis

The Fugitive (1947), a distinctive drama directed by John Ford, follows a Catholic priest (Henry Fonda) pursued by authorities during a period of religious repression in Mexico. In his perilous attempt to flee the country, he forms a complex relationship with María Dolores (Dolores del Río) while on the run from a police lieutenant (Pedro Armendáriz). A departure from the Westerns that made the director famous, this work based on Graham Greene's novel stands out for Gabriel Figueroa's extraordinary cinematography. His masterful use of the Mexican landscape to convey faith and guilt was highlighted by MoMA, cementing this film as a historic collaboration between American and Mexican talent. The film will be screened in its original language with Spanish subtitles. Free admission, limited seating.
