The José Limón International Dance Festival was founded in 1986 with the primary objective of honoring and disseminating the legacy of the prominent Mexican dancer and choreographer José Limón, originally from Culiacán, Sinaloa. To date, it has established itself as one of the most important dance events in Mexico. This festival seeks to promote and enrich the contemporary dance scene nationally and internationally and plays a crucial role in disseminating contemporary dance and developing audiences interested in this artistic discipline. The José Limón Festival takes place in various cities in the state of Sinaloa, including Culiacán, Mazatlán, and Los Mochis, with the participation of renowned companies and dancers from various countries, allowing for an enriching cultural and artistic exchange. In addition to dance performances, the festival includes a variety of activities, such as the presentation of the Culiacán Choreography Award and the José Limón National Dance Award. Exhibitions and book presentations, a meeting of academies, artistic residencies, and ensembles with dancers from across the country.
