The activities of the Casa Haas Cinema return this Saturday, October 31 at 6:00 pm with the special screening of the film “The VVitch” (The VVitch, 2015) written and directed by Robert Eggers.

“TheVVitch” is a meticulously constructed supernatural folk horror story based on New England folk tales, about which the director mentions: “This film was inspired by many folk tales, fairy tales and written accounts of historical witchcraft, including diaries. and court records. Much of the dialogue comes directly from these period sources ”.

Located around the year 1630; “William” (Ralph Ineson) and his family are expelled from their community as they try to lead a devout Christian life. In his exile, he decides to establish his new home, together with his five children, near a forest. When the baby disappears under the care of “Thomasin” (Anya Taylor Joy), he is accused of associating with a witch who lives in the forest. The family begins to confront each other and their crops begin to rot, leaving them prey to inconceivable evil and their own sins.

“The VVitch” could be seen as a story of the origin of religious fanaticism, opening a new and threatening opportunity for decision. Even the Satanic Temple Cult commented that: “It supports the film’s declaration of female independence, which provokes a puritanical America and inspires a tradition of spiritual transgression.”

The dark vibe that descends slowly like a spiral is excellently executed and is an artistic delight to see one of the new masterpieces of cinema.
