He will give a workshop on literature and freedom, on Monday, February 13th

After traveling the world in search of new life and fortune, David Toscana, Premio Mazatlán de Literatura 2023 [Mazatlán Prize for Literature 2023], for his work “The Weight of Living on Earth”, will receive the prestigious award and a prize of 100,000 pesos in this city -granted by UAS- at the Evening of the Arts, on Saturday, February 11th at 8:00 p.m. at the Ángela Peralta Theater.

The night before, on Friday, February 10th at 7:00 p.m. at Casa Haas, the author from Monterrey will present his award-winning novel, a tribute to the freedom of writing and imagination, and will dialogue with his readers.

At the corner of Heriberto Frías and Mariano Escobedo streets, the award-winning writer will meet with prominent figures from national literature to talk about his career, his survival in the world of writing and his most recent work: “The Weight of Living on Earth”.

Regarding his origins, Toscana says: “I think that Monterrey was already widely read, widely seen, and he needed, like many writers, to start traveling around the world, first I lived in Poland, I have lived in Portugal, now I am in Madrid, and however, I continue to visit Monterrey through nostalgia”.

Writers Braulio Peralta, Eve Gil and Juan José Rodríguez will talk about the work of David Toscana, president of the jury responsible for choosing the winning work of the Mazatlán Literature Prize, which dignifies the cultural program of Carnaval Internacional Mazatlán 2023.

On Monday, February 13th, at 7:00 p.m. at Casa Haas, within the Letras para el Puerto program, David Toscana will give the workshop “Literature and Freedom.”

It will be “a splendid journey through Russian literature to celebrate those brave writers who were free in a world that was not.”
