Through a tour and a show, students get to know the educational offering of the CMA

Mazatlán, Sinaloa, March 28, 2023.- To share the idea that art can change our lives, and it is a profession that can be practiced, this Tuesday, at the Ángela Peralta Theater the Encounter with the Arts was held which was attended by around 700 primary and secondary school students.

In groups, primary and secondary students attended the appointment. The meetings began at ten in the morning. They entered through the Music Hall, where scholars of various instruments were taking a regular class.

Afterwards, the teenagers went inside the Municipal Arts Center where teacher Claudia Lavista, Contemporary Dance coordinator, welcomed them.

In her impromptu speech, the choreographer and professional dancer with performances on stages in various countries around the world, excited the young people by announcing that several surprises were prepared.

The intention was to publicize the various artistic training options offered by the Municipal Center for the Arts of the Municipal Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán.

“What we want to share with you is that art is a way of life, that one studies to be an artist, and that one can decide to be a ballet or contemporary dancer, to be an actor”, she told them.

Claudia Lavista considered the presence of the students at the Ángela Peralta Theater “a wonder” “a jewel in the Northwest of Mexico”, of which Mazatlecos are proud.

Raúl Rico González, General Director of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán, emphasized that the idea of the Encounter with the Arts is to involve those who may be new artists or students at the Municipal Center for the Arts, which aspires to increase enrollment to 1,600 students, as in the past.

The official highlighted the importance of the artistic work of the CMA since there are students and alumni from different cities in Mexico and other countries and soon students from Israel will come, thanks to a student exchange.

Rico González stressed that the CMA is an artistic training center open to cultural exchange and is one of the most renowned, with graduates in the Vienna Opera, in the Philadelphia Opera, alumni who have been Plácido Domingo scholarship holders, and graduates who direct or are part of important companies in Mexico and abroad.

The show

At the end of the tour to learn about the workshops and artistic professions offered by the Municipal Center for the Arts, the students entered the Ángela Peralta Theater where they enjoyed a multidisciplinary show. For many it represented their first encounter with the arts.

When welcoming Liliana Aréchiga, Director of the CMA, she highlighted that a cultured society generates critical, sensitive individuals interested in improving their environment, therefore, promoting initiatives to promote culture and art is essential for the development of an entity, since the societies that invest in it, stand out for having higher rates of schooling, recognition for the quality of their educational centers, less rates of violence and great social, cultural and human capital.

After the welcome, the light subsided, the curtain drew, the first couple of artists appeared, showing their advances in the world of acting through Steve Soler’s play “Contra el Amor”.

Juliana Campis and Alonso Caro, interpreted the story of a marriage where “she” decides to end her relationship just a year after they were married because the conditional love contract says so. A reflection between women who decide to have children and keep a partner forever and people who prefer not to have them and move forward in life in search of opportunities, metaphorically represented by the passage of the train announced by Emmanuel García.

The Encounter with the Arts continued with the intervention of the Regional Youth Music Band directed by Santiago Rosas, who excited the youth with “El corrido de Mazatlán”, “El Capiro” and “Mi gusto es”.

It was the students of the Municipal Ballet Schoo’s turn, who showed off their artistic skills by dancing “La negrita cucurumbé”, “Ché Araña” and Chong Ki Fu”, musical works by the unforgettable composer Francisco Gabilondo Soler from Vera Cruz, “Cri Cri” interpreted with the accompaniment of the CMA Youth Orchestra conducted by Juan Carlos Chavarín.
