On Friday, March 31st at 8:00 p.m., the Angela Peralta Theater will receive Pascua Barroca, a concert to lift the spirit and celebrate life despite loss.

La Camerata Mazatlán and invited soloists, under the direction of maestro Gordon Campbell, will offer this Easter concert to celebrate the spiritual rebirth with the interpretation pieces by Bach, Vivaldi, Haendël and of course Pergolesi.

The centerpiece is “Stabat Mater” by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.

Pergolesi lived to be twenty-six, however, in that time he left some jewels in music and one of them is Stabat Mater, The Adoration of the Mother, a piece for soprano, mezzo-soprano or alto, strings and organ.

The Adoration of the Mother has been one of the pillars of the celebrations of Easter for a long time. This work calls for two high-quality soloists, which is why mezzo-soprano Oralia Castro and soprano Wendy García have been invited, both important voices in the lyrical panorama of Mexico.

To make the concert more festive and to remember that it really is time to celebrate, maestro Gordon Campbell decided to integrate other Baroque works.

The concert will begin with a brilliant Bach cantata “Praises of God in All the Earth” and Haëndel’s “Ombra mai fú”, one of the most spiritual works ever.

“Ombra mai fu” is probably the most famous number from George Frideric Handel’s (1658-1759) operas, who began his career in 1702 as a church organist in the central European city of Halle in Germany.

The concert will continue with “Concierto in G major, Rustic style” by A. Vivaldi, among other works.

Maestro and conductor Gordon Campbell has recorded several albums, which include numerous world premieres. He has been a guest of the most important orchestras in Mexico, such as the National Symphony, and the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico. He has also been invited to the orchestras of Montevideo, Uruguay and Asunción, Paraguay.

Tickets are available at the Ángela Peralta Theater box office. $300, $250, $200, $150 pesos. More information at 669 982 4447.
