Perpetuum Tempus a reflection between the eternal and the ephemeral of the human being
Mazatlán, Sinaloa, March 20, 2023.- The Physical Momentum company directed by Francisco Córdova and Danza Joven de Sinaloa, under the direction of Carlos Zamora, presented this Sunday at the Ángela Peralta Theater “Perpetuum Tempus”, a piece that is part of the vital cycles, a reflection on the eternal and the ephemeral of the human being.
Carlos Zamora, Edylin Zatarain, Mario Edén Cázares, Alondra Alvarado, Alyson Flores, Melisa Alfaro and Maximiliano Corrales, share the passion of doing dance through a piece in which they demonstrate group harmony, coordination, discipline and artistic commitment.
With lighting and scenery by Francisco Córdova, “Perpetuum Tempus” flows from modules with a kind of black mirror that evokes objects of the past such as the obsidian mirror to which the Aztecs attributed magical properties to make trips to the world of the ancestors.
The interpreters perform movements in each module, play in each box, their images are reflected, multiplied, repeated, diluted, and defragmented.
Regarding “Perpetuum Tempus”, Carlos Zamora, co-director, dancer and choreographer, expressed that the name of the work is a kind of conclusion between the playful action and the philosophical question.
“The idea is to talk about what is eternal and at the same time how ephemeral we are, how we are constantly deconstructing and building ourselves and how vital time is for us”.
“The work is not built in a linear way, but rather a series of images that evoke this construction and deconstruction, this way of presenting to the public how something eternal can be and stay there for a long time or be destroyed in a second.”
The Danza Joven company is based in Culiacán, it was founded by Georgina Gutiérrez and Javier Basurto but since 2014 it has been co-directed by Carlos Zamora and Edylin Zatarain, both sixth-generation graduates of the Mazatlán Professional Dance School.
In 2019, the current co-directors of Danza Joven de Sinaloa joined Francisco Córdova, director of Physical Momentum, in the co-production of “Perpetuum Tempus”.
With this work, supported by the Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura and México en Escena, Physical Momentum and Danza Joven carry out an artistic tour in several cities.
The tour is intended to celebrate the first fifteen years of artistic creation of both companies. The previous Monday, they performed in Culiacán, last Sunday, in Mazatlán, then they will travel to Durango and return to Culiacán to perform at the Lince Theater of the University of Durango and on March 31st. They will conclude the tour in Los Mochis. Later they will push their cultural project towards other cities of the Mexican Republic.
