This Saturday at six in the afternoon at the Cinematograph of the Municipal Center for the Arts, the screening of nominated, award-winning and critically acclaimed films continues. “The Whale”, known in Spanish as “La Ballena” will be screeened.

This film by Darren Aronofsky premiered in December 2022, in the cast the name of Brendan Fraser stands out as the protagonist, a comedian who won the Oscar for Best Actor, he was also nominated for these awards in the category of Best Makeup and Best Supporting Actress.

The plot follows a teacher who falls into the category of morbid obesity and who is confined in his apartment. While hiding from the world, he tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter and deal with his health with his nurse friend.

As the story progresses, we understand the nature of his few social relationships and the reasons that led to his current condition.

The Whale could be completely unbearable, if it weren’t for Brendan Fraser, capable of building a deep and sensitive look on a critical emotional pain. It is his performance that makes it possible for the film to be more than just a sordid parade of grotesque scenes. But, beyond that, the interpreter manages to create a perception about Charlie that is much more than the underlining of ideas about his invisible horrors. A merit that gives the character a total humanity that moves and defies any immediate classification.

The film is projected in its original language, English with Spanish subtitles, free admission with limited space; admission is from 5:40 p.m. at the CMA door located on Carnaval S/N street in front of Plazuela Machado
