From Israel, the dance company C.A.T.A.M.O.N arrives at the Ángela Peralta Theater with the work “Somewhere”. The Israeli group will perform on Saturday, April 22nd at 8:00 p.m.

Spring Season 2023 of the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán presents “Somewhere” an international program under the artistic gaze of dancer and choreographer Elad Schechter, founder of the cultural group C.A.T.A.M.O.N in Israel.

“Somewhere” addresses the latent desire for a lifetime of connection to our environment versus action and the desire to set the limits of our body. It is documented in movement and material. Similar to Italo Calvino’s masterful book ‘The Invisible Cities’, this is how they represent distant islands that become concrete material. Material recorded in space through sound, text, human movement and color on the ground. Here the human body is shown devoid of tangible concepts.

C.A.T.A.M.O.N. Dance Group is a cultural organization created by choreographer Elad Schechter in Jerusalem in 2012. For its members, dance works as a cultural mediator, since it facilitates non-verbal encounters and shared experiences. In doing so, social change can be motivated and different communities can be found, artists have a sensitive ability to connect and bridge communication gaps.

Choreography often serves as a tool to expand the perception of the human body and deepen the connections between humans. Complex, layered, and professional local art has the ability to deepen, excite, and reconnect.

Elad Schechter is a dancer, choreographer, curator and cultural initiator. He graduated from Jerusalem High School of the Arts and served in the IDF Theater department, danced in several dance companies including: Senedance NYC, The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Charleroi Danses (Brussels), Vertigo (Jerusalem) . In 2012, he founded the Dance Group C.A.T.A.M.O.N. in Jerusalem. His work has been performed hundreds of times in Israel and abroad, and has received the highest acclaim. He received the silver medal at the 2011 Beijing International Choreography Competition.
