The renovation work, habilitation of spaces and improvement of equipment and conditions of the building that houses the Municipal Center for the Arts is advancing for the benefit of around 600 students, almost 100 teachers and 20 workers .
When participating in a tour of the CMA facilities, the Educational Director of the campus, Liliana Aréchiga, demonstrated the work carried out by the institution’s own staff, which represents significant savings by not having to hire external services.
Corrective and preventive maintenance is carried out in the face of neglect and lack of general maintenance, since in four years the spaces and schools of the CMA were not waterproofed and due to this there are damp walls, ceiling lights with fungus and the smell of humidity is intense.
One of the areas affected by humidity is the Music Museum, where classes are held, rehearsals are held and concerts are offered.
“It was patched and painted, we are looking for waterproofing before the rainy season begins so that the work done is not damaged.”
In order to improve the conditions of the school center, actions have been carried out for painting, air conditioning maintenance, washing, repairing and painting furniture, fitting out bathrooms, restoring musical instruments, repairing floors and soffits on the ceilings.
“We found that maintenance was not given to these spaces for a long time and we are working on that from washing, painting, patching and placing materials on floors and ceilings,” she explained.
Furniture was replaced by other that already existed and had not been used and we continue to recover, clean and prepare spaces to expand the study areas since they were previously used as warehouses.
In the previous administration, the bathrooms were used as storage rooms, there were wooden musical instruments in a state of humidity, which have been restored and stored in suitable places, and the toilets were cleaned and repaired, she said.
Liliana Aréchiga explained that the maintenance works are being done by the CMA staff and for an optimal application of the budget, the most specialized jobs are quoted and whoever offers the best quality and price is hired.
There are areas such as the academic coordination entrance where the air conditioning had been leaking for 2 years, all it required was basic maintenance.
The third floor of the Music area was also a warehouse, we took out what was useless, there were things that were inventoried and we are working to get them removed and the idea is to make it a living room, she added.
Finally, she commented that the CMA Cinema received support from the Mexican Cinema Promotion program of almost 463 thousand pesos to improve its facilities and to purchase a projector.
