The doors of the “Marco Lugo” Cinema at the Municipal Arts Center open this Saturday, October 26th at 6:00 p.m. to screen “Lake Tahoe,” a film directed by Fernando Eimbcke in 2008.
With Lake Tahoe, Fernando Eimbcke offers us a minimalist work full of silences and moments of deep reflection. The plot follows Juan, a young man who, after crashing his car, meets a series of eccentric characters who transform his day into a surreal experience.
In an almost poetic tone, Eimbcke captures the emotional desolation and beauty of everyday life, where sparse dialogue gives space to small gestures. The simple, static photography reinforces the emotional emptiness surrounding the characters, while subtle humor adds warmth and humanity to the story.
The film invites us to introspection, showing how small encounters can have a profound impact on our lives. Lake Tahoe is a delicate work of art, finding beauty in the ordinary and depth in silence.
In 2008, this film won the Alfred I Award, which is the FIPRESCI International Critics’ Prize at the Berlin Film Festival. It won the Best Film award at the 2008 Guadalajara International Film Festival, while in 2009 it won Best Film at the Ariel Awards.
Admission will be free with limited capacity, the screening will be in its original language, Spanish, and doors open 20 minutes before the start of the screening.
