The Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismi y Arte de Mazatlán has started a training program for Fine Arts teachers of the Municipal Arts Center in the “Elvira Gascón Enamel Workshop”.
This workshop, taught by teacher Lucila Santiago, aims to complete the basic part of the enamel technique so that teachers can impart this knowledge to new generations.
The enamel technique is considered very important because it is an ancient technique that offers many possibilities both pictorially and for jewelry and crafts. However, it is a little-known technique in Sinaloa and Mexico, so this workshop is a valuable opportunity for teachers and future artists, explained Lucila Santiago.
The workshop will last 20 hours and will conclude on Friday.
Teacher Lucila Santiago hopes that in the next school year this knowledge will begin to be shared with the new students.
Teacher Lucila Santiago studied a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts, with studies at the National School of Plastic Arts of the UNAM and at the Llotj School of Barcelona, Spain. The Italian Institute of Culture offered her support to study at the Universitá Per Stranieri, in Perugia, Italy.
In her professional life she has been a restorer of dioramas, display cases and traveling exhibitions at the Museum of Natural History in Mexico City. She has been in charge of the Visual Arts Workshop for Adults at Casa Pacífica in Mazatlán.
