“All We Imagine as Light” (2024), known in Mexico as “La luz que imaginamos”, is the most recent film by Hindu director Payal Kapadia, which arrives this Saturday, February 16th, at 6:00 p.m. at the “Marco Lugo” Cinema of the Municipal Arts Center.

The feature film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, being the first film from India to achieve this distinction in 30 years.

This film transports us to the bustling heart of Mumbai, where we follow Prabha, a nurse who tries to drown her painful memories in her daily work. Everything is going according to plan until an unexpected gift from her husband, who works in Germany, reopens old wounds and forces her to confront her past.

While Anu, her roommate and younger colleague, struggles to find a space in the city to be with her boyfriend.

Both women, despite their differences, weave a network of mutual support that helps them navigate the challenges of a society that often limits them.

“All We Imagine as Light” is a sensory experience that captures the essence of Mumbai and the intertwined lives of its protagonists. It is a profound exploration of friendship, pain and the search for liberation in the midst of urban chaos. A powerful reflection on human connections and the internal struggles we all face.

Admission is free with limited access, the doors of the CMA open 20 minutes before the screening, the film is screened in its original language with Spanish subtitles.
