This Saturday, February 8th at 6:00 p.m., the “Marco Lugo” Cinema of the Municipal Arts Center will have a sample of Latin Cinema with the screening of “El Jockey”, an Argentine film by filmmaker Luis Ortega.
“El Jockey” (2024), is a pampas film that explores the life of Remo Manfredini, a legendary horse racer played by Nahuel Pérez Biscayart.
The film has been recognized at various international festivals, winning the Horizontes Award for best Latin American film at the San Sebastian Film Festival and several awards at the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, including acting awards for Pérez Biscayart and Corberó.
The plot follows Remo, whose self-destructive behavior begins to overshadow his talent and affects his relationship with his partner, Abril (Úrsula Corberó). After suffering an accident in a crucial race, Remo disappears from the hospital and wanders the streets of Buenos Aires, beginning a journey of self-discovery and personal transformation.
El Jockey is a bold proposal that invites the viewer to reflect on identity and self-destruction, presenting a narrative that, although it may seem scattered, offers moments of remarkable visual beauty and outstanding performances.
The film is screened in its original Spanish language, admission is free with limited capacity, and access will be at the entrance of the CMA located on Calle Carnaval S/N in front of Plazuela Machado, with access starting 20 minutes before the screening.
