At the Evening of the Arts held at the Ángela Peralta Theater, writer, poet and professor Fabio Morábito received the Mazatlán Literature Award 2025 on Saturday night for his book “Jardín de Noche. Although this Award has a 60-year tradition, it is being awarded for the 50th time, due to a break between the 70s and 80s.

The Carnaval Queen, Lucero I, presented the commemorative trophy to the award-winning writer, accompanied by the Queen of the Centennial of the Floral Games, Desireé I, and it corresponded to Dr. Armida Llamas, representing the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and its Rector Jesús Madueña, presented the cash prize to Morábito, who was accompanied on stage by writers Braulio Peralta, Eve Gil and Juan José Rodríguez, members of the jury of this Prize that enjoys great prestige in Mexican literature.

During his speech, Fabio Morábito highlighted the importance of the writer’s struggle with words and how this prize motivates him to continue fighting. He also shared an anecdote about a writer who strives to write the “perfect justification”, symbolizing the constant search for perfection in writing, because the writer is the one who faces the difficulty of writing and makes that difficulty, almost his mission, the meaning of his existence.

The award-winning writer stressed that the Prize awarded that night fills him with pride for all those who won it before him.

“Writers that I admire and some of whom were my teachers more than my colleagues, that is why I want to take it as every literary award should be taken, as the perfect justification that authorizes continuing to fight with words,” said the author of Jardín de Noche.

This recognition adds another achievement to the career of Fabio Morábito, who has published four novels, eight books of short stories, nine poetic works, three essays and three books with diverse themes, and has received eight previous literary awards.

During this anniversary evening, the Chronicler of Mazatlán, Enrique Vega Ayala highlighted that this 2025 marks the centenary of the Floral Games, therefore, a well-deserved recognition was given to Raúl Rico González, who has been the organizer of the greatest cultural celebration in Mazatlán for the last 50 years.

His dedication and effort have been fundamental to the success of this event, which has positioned Mazatlán as a cultural reference in the region, a merit that the public recognized with prolonged applause and Bravos!.

At the end of the awards ceremony, “Una Noche en Viena” was offered, a music and dance show in which “Baile de Graduados” and “El Murciélago” by Johann Strauss were performed to celebrate the award-winning writer and pay tribute to the Austrian composer on the bicentennial of his birth. The Camerata Mazatlán, the Guillermo Sarabia Choir and the soloists Jéssika Arévalo (Soprano), Andrés Carrillo (tenor), Vanessa Gama (soprano), Sarah Holcombe (mezzo-soprano), Rose Ferreiro (mezzo-soprano), Rebeca de Rueda (soprano), Eduardo Tapia (tenor), Ángel Castillo (baritone) participated, all under the musical direction of maestro Enrique Patrón De Rueda and the stage direction of José Medina.

Dancers from the Mazatlán Ballet Company, directed by maestro Zoila Fernández and maestro Eduardo Blanco, joined the celebration.
