The Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán presented “A Night in Vienna” a majestic show at the 2025 Evening of the Arts.

The program included the work “Baile de Graduados” and the fun operetta “El Murciélago” by Johann Strauss, performed by the Camerata Mazatlán, the Guillermo Sarabia Choir and virtuoso soloists under the expertise of the guest director, maestro Enrique Patrón De Rueda. In the choreographies, the Mazatlán Ballet Company, directed by maestro Zoila Fernández, won the applause of the public, who also recognized the choreographic work of maestro Eduardo Blanco and the stage direction of José Medina.

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Mazatlán Prize for Literature, award-winning writer Fabio Morábito was honored for his book “Jardín de Noche” and tribute was paid to Austrian composer Johann Strauss on the bicentennial of his birth.

At the Evening of the Arts, the Guillermo Sarabia Choir shone with its harmony accompanying the soloists in a night full of music and joy. The Camerata Mazatlán, under the direction of maestro Patrón De Rueda, offered an exquisite interpretation of Strauss’ music, demonstrating its mastery and dedication.

In the first part of the program, the Mazatlán Ballet Company directed by maestro Zoila Fernández performed Baile de Graduados, an orchestral suite that evokes the elegance and sophistication of 19th-century Vienna. It is one of Strauss’ most famous works, known for its energetic rhythm and catchy melody.

The story takes place at an elegant prom organized by the academy’s director to celebrate the end of the school year. The excited students prepare to welcome the cadets of a military academy, who have been invited to the ball.

“El Murciélago” closed the program. In this fun light comedy that explores themes of infidelity, deception and redemption, the voices of Jéssika Arévalo (Rosalinde), Andrés Carrillo, (Eisenstein), Sarah Holcombe (Prince Orlofsky), Vanessa Gama, (Adele), Rose Ferreiro (Butler), Rebeca de Rueda (Ida), Eduardo Tapia (Dr. Falke) and Ángel Castillo (Frank) stood out.

The story begins at a masked ball where Gabriel Von Eisenstein attends dressed as a butterfly and his friend Dr. Falke as a bat. The plot unfolds with a series of confusions and misunderstandings that lead to a fun and exciting conclusion with the voice and stage movements of the soloists and the chorus.

The dancers, for their part, won the admiration of the public for their technique by interpreting elegant and fun choreographies and others of a high degree of difficulty such as the male variation of Corsario performed by Oscar Treto; the female variation “Medora” performed by Sandra Fernández or the Pax de Deux from the ballet Espartaco in which Gean Lee Panchi Balseca and Stephany Martínez Hurtado shone, perfectly complementing the show.

The dancers of the Mazatlán Ballet Company also had a great night: Ana Paola Villegas, Gabriel Jiménez, Martha Alcaraz, Mariana Romero, Aramara Monserrat Ayala, Pamela Aguirre, Carlos Claramunt, Juan Carlos Santiago and Manuel Hernández.

The operetta was totally enjoyed by the public, who laughed at the version in which the characters were linked to Mazatlan culture. It was an unforgettable night that demonstrated the talent and dedication of the Mazatlan artists, trained in the music and ballet schools of the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlan.

The 2025 Evening of the Arts was a resounding success, with a large attendance of the public who enjoyed the music, dance and the theatricality of the night.
