-The application submission period closes on October 2, 2026
The Mazatlán Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism, and Art (CULTURA) has issued the official call for candidates for the titles of Carnival Queen and Queen of the Floral Games for the 2027 Mazatlán International Carnival. These queens will represent the port’s premier festival, scheduled to take place from February 4 to 9, 2027.
Aspiring candidates must submit their documentation to the CULTURA offices (Av. Miguel Alemán 203, Col. Centro) Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The deadline for registration submissions is Friday, October 2, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
Participation Requirements and Social Commitment
The call is open to women who are at least 18 years old at the time of registration and no older than 27 on the day of the election. Candidates must have been born in the municipality or be the daughters of Mazatlán natives, with verifiable continuous residency of at least five years. Additionally, they must be single and must never have been married, nor be mothers or pregnant.
To provide opportunities to new participants, only those who have competed in a previous edition will be accepted. As a mandatory requirement, participants must include a community service project; based on this, the Institute will assign them a civil society organization to collaborate with during their campaign.
Selection and Presentation Process
On October 5, 2026, CULTURA will conduct the internal selection process, which includes a runway evaluation, a video test, a photo session, and an assessment of knowledge regarding Mazatlán’s history and its carnival festivities. From this selection round, a final group of 7 to 10 official candidates will be chosen; they will be notified no later than October 10 and presented to the public on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Candidates must register a committee president (excluding parents and siblings) and maintain a minimum attendance rate of 80% at rehearsals and official engagements.
Selection Night and Jury
The final competition will take place on Saturday, January 16, 2027, at 7:00 PM at the Ángela Peralta Theater, where the Beauty and Judgment (poise and intellect) segments will be evaluated.
The panel of judges will consist of specialists in the fields of beauty, culture, the arts, and communication. To ensure transparency, jury members will be nominated by the candidates and selected via a vote conducted in the presence of a Notary Public. Scoring will range from 6 to 10; the highest and lowest scores for each participant will be discarded to determine the final tally.
The contestant with the highest score will be crowned Carnival Queen, while the runner-up will receive the title of Queen of the Floral Games; the remaining participants will serve as Royal Princesses. The jury’s decision will be formally ratified before a notary and will be final and unappealable.
