The concert marked the conclusion of the Advanced Vocal Training Course led by renowned tenor José Manuel Chú.
In an evening filled with emotion and technical precision, soloists from the Ángela Peralta Choir and members of the Municipal Center for the Arts (CMA) School of Singing captivated the audience during the “Canto y Tradición” (Song and Tradition) concert held at Casa Haas.
The performance marked the triumphant conclusion of the Advanced Vocal Training Course led by renowned tenor José Manuel Chú—a program designed to equip young talents with advanced tools in vocal technique, interpretation, and stage presence.
Throughout the evening, the participating vocalists took the audience on a journey through various eras and styles of lyrical music, featuring works by prominent European composers—primarily from the Italian repertoire—as well as pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi, and Christoph Willibald Gluck.
The stage came alive with performances by José Arturo Rauda, Nadia Hernández, Romeo Baños Estrada, Carla Beltrán, Jorge Palacios, Roberto Carlos Sánchez, Nury Espinoza, José Luis Velarde, Nicole Gallardo, Melanie Valles, Rodrigo Becerril, Shellyara Hinojosa, and Antonio Lizárraga.
In the final segment of the concert, Paulina Soria performed “Ruhe sanft, mein holdes Leben” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Ángela Rodríguez took the stage with “Stride la vampa” from Giuseppe Verdi’s *Il Trovatore*; and Itzel Furichi performed “Voi che sapete” from Mozart’s *Le nozze di Figaro*, bringing to a close an evening that showcased the diversity and richness of the operatic repertoire.
The singers were accompanied throughout the event by soloist and master pianist Sergio Castellanos of the Ángela Peralta Choir. A special performance was also given by young Matthew Alexander Martínez—a student in the CMA’s Bachelor of Singing program—who accompanied tenor Antonio Lizárraga. “Canto y Tradición” thus became a space to recognize the talent of new generations of singers and, at the same time, reaffirm the importance of the artistic training fostered by the Municipal Center for the Arts.
