The “Canto y Tradición” concert will offer a journey through centuries of vocal evolution, ranging from early Italian arias and works by Mozart to Neapolitan songs and contemporary repertoire. The performance marks the conclusion of the Advanced Vocal Training Course led by Maestro José Manuel Chú and will feature the voices of the Ángela Peralta Choir and students from the Municipal Center for the Arts (CMA), accompanied on the piano by Maestro Sergio Castellanos García.
The event takes place this Saturday, August 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Casa Haas. Tickets $200.00 (on sale at the Ángela Peralta Theater box office).
Program and Participating Talent
The program will bring together numerous performers who have honed their technique and expression under the guidance of Maestro José Manuel Chú. The repertoire will span works from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods through to modern times, allowing the audience to appreciate the technical nuances, tonal qualities, and expressive variations of vocal performance.
The program will open with early Italian arias—fundamental to a singer’s training. It will then move on to works by Mozart, a cornerstone of vocal development, and include Neapolitan music and pieces from various other traditions.
The goal is for the audience not only to enjoy the voices but also to recognize the distinctions between eras, styles, tonal qualities, and interpretive approaches.
A repertoire for hearing voices and discovering music.

The CMA: A Cultural Beacon
Reflecting on the work of the Municipal Center for the Arts (CMA), Maestro Sergio Castellanos was emphatic about its importance to Mazatlán: “The CMA is like a beacon.”
The musician highlighted the need to preserve and strengthen projects that sustain artistic activity and the training of new generations.
“Singing and…” “Tradición” will be the visible result of a process of vocal refinement, and an opportunity to hear how a voice takes shape, how music changes over the centuries, and how repertoires written generations ago can come back to life before an audience.
