The Sinaloa Institute of Culture (ISIC), in collaboration with the Compañía Teatral del Norte and El Mentidero, invites the general public to the production “Fruncidos: Una selfie teatral” (Puckered: A Theatrical Selfie). This comedy-drama was written by and co-stars Sergio Galindo, features a star performance by Jesús Ochoa, and is directed by Paulo Galindo.
The event in the port of Mazatlán will take place on Wednesday, August 26, at 7:00 PM at the iconic Ángela Peralta Theater, as part of a statewide tour that also includes stops in Los Mochis (August 24) and Culiacán (August 25).
*Humor, Memory, and Resilience*
“Fruncidos” follows the story of Melitón and El Chato, two old friends from the mountains of Sonora. After becoming widowers, they face the challenges of old age, memory lapses, and life as single men in their later years side-by-side. Steering clear of melodramatic clichés, the play uses wit, energy, and the distinctive dialect of northern Mexico to portray a deep friendship that employs humor as both a trench for defense and an expression of affection.
Produced by the Compañía Teatral del Norte, the production pays tribute to regional roots, the identity of northern Mexico, and the enduring memory of the men’s life partners, demonstrating that laughter and friendship are essential tools for survival.
*Talent with a National and International Track Record*
The production brings together two highly respected figures of the Mexican stage:
Jesús Ochoa: With an extensive career spanning theater, television, and over 50 national and international feature films, this actor from Sonora has received numerous accolades, including the Ariel Award.
Sergio Galindo: Actor, playwright, and founder of the Compañía Teatral del Norte. He is a recipient of the Xavier Villaurrutia Medal, awarded by INBAL in recognition of his contributions to national theater. Compañía Teatral del Norte: An independent troupe founded in Hermosillo in 1995. With a thirty-year track record, international tours, and the creation of the El Mentidero cultural center, it remains a vibrant benchmark for theater in northwestern Mexico.
