As part of the “Cultura en tu Comunidad” (Culture in Your Community) program within the Mazatlán Cultural Festival 2026, Camerata Mazatlán—conducted by Maestro Sergio Freeman—will perform at the Señor de la Misericordia Church on Monday, September 28, at 6:00 PM. Together with the CMA Vocal Ensemble and guest soloists, they will offer an unforgettable musical journey ranging from the beauty of sacred art to the warmth of our Mexican roots. Admission is free.
Maestro Freeman explained that the musical selection was carefully curated to provide a diverse and immersive experience, taking advantage of the church’s mystical atmosphere, intimacy, and acoustic qualities.
The program includes universal masterpieces such as Pachelbel’s famous Canon and Mozart’s *Missa Brevis*—a pinnacle of the sacred repertoire chosen specifically to shine within the venue’s atmosphere. The evening will continue with gems of traditional Italian song performed by guest soloists Rebeca de Rueda, Alejandro Yépez, and Eduardo Tapia. To conclude, the audience will enjoy beloved Mexican musical works such as María Grever’s “Te quiero, dijiste,” Juan Gabriel’s “Amor Eterno,” and Agustín Lara’s “Granada,” as well as “México Lindo y Querido” and “Viva México.”
“Religious venues have been ideal spaces for music for centuries. They possess excellent acoustics and an atmosphere that fosters a deeply intimate connection between the instruments, the solo voices, and the audience,” stated Sergio Freeman.
A Union of Talents
This concert also reflects the collaborative spirit of the local artistic community, bringing together the talents of Camerata Mazatlán, the CMA Vocal Ensemble—conducted by Maestro Juan Pablo García—and the participating soloists. After weeks of intensive rehearsals, Maestro Sergio Freeman highlighted the technical quality and dedication of the performers.
“There are highly professional voices here, and everyone knows what they need to do; ultimately, bringing all the parts together isn’t that complicated,” he commented.
Bringing art to the heart of the neighborhoods
Through the “Culture in Your Community” program, the Mazatlán Institute of Culture seeks to decentralize artistic offerings.
“We invite people to come to the theater, of course, but there are those who might not have that opportunity; these are the ideal spaces where we can connect with the community we serve,” he stated.
An invitation to experience concert music
Finally, Maestro Sergio Freeman reiterated the invitation for the public to cast aside preconceived notions about classical music and allow themselves to enjoy it naturally, without formalities: “It is music like any other—meant to be enjoyed, felt, and listened to,” he remarked.
“It is spectacular to meet people who perhaps haven’t had the chance to visit a theater but welcome us here—close to their homes, their communities, and their own spaces—and it is a pleasure to perform for them.”
He concluded by inviting the public to enjoy the full experience at the Ángela Peralta Theater, where every performance offers a unique connection between the music, the performers, and the venue itself.
“Spaces have a magic of their own, and each one is different. The theater possesses an unmatched magic—no other space compares to it in that regard—and it offers a complete experience,” he concluded.
