This theory-and-practice workshop was part of the activities for the inaugural Mazatlán String Festival 2026.
With the aim of equipping students and aspiring performers with practical skills, the workshop “Care for Your Sound: Maintenance of the Violin Family and Historical Instruments—A Window into Bach’s Sound” was held. Led by violinist Jonatan Flores, the session took place as part of the Mazatlán String Festival 2026.
Under the instructor’s guidance, participants worked with their own instruments, learning to identify optimal storage conditions, recognize signs of wear or mechanical issues, and apply essential preventive care to extend the lifespan of violins, violas, and cellos.
The session combined theoretical explanations with visual demonstrations and step-by-step guided exercises, fostering an accessible and interactive learning environment.
Jonatan Flores—a Mazatlán-born violinist returning to his hometown after a distinguished career abroad—praised the discipline and enthusiasm shown by the young participants.
“It was a very pleasant experience. I saw the students fully committed and focused during every stage of the process; they were attentive and followed instructions precisely,” the musician noted.
Flores welcomed the launch of the inaugural Mazatlán String Festival (supported by the PADID 2026 grant program), recognizing it as a key platform driven by the organizing instructors to elevate the technical and academic standards of the next generation of instrumentalists in Sinaloa and across the country.
“I am very happy that this festival is taking place; it is something Mazatlán really needed, and I certainly hope it is the first of many,” he added. To conclude, the maestro invited the student community and music lovers to join the remaining activities of the 2026 Mazatlán String Festival, which includes masterclasses, recitals, lectures, and concerts open to the general public.
