On the evening of September 4, Galería Rubio became the perfect setting for visual artist Yaz González to unveil “Cosmogonías: Tradición, Historia y Conspiración.” In this, her first solo exhibition, the artist immerses the viewer in a universe of myths, symbols, and diverse perspectives regarding the origins of humanity.

Joined by friends, colleagues, students, and the general public, the Mazatlán native and her daughters cut the ceremonial ribbon, opening the gallery doors for visitors to appreciate more than 20 pieces—created using various techniques, sizes, and colors—with which she hopes to inspire reflection.

During the evening, Mónica Rice, Coordinator of Visual Arts at the Municipal Center for the Arts (CMA), delivered the welcoming remarks. She highlighted the high quality of the works exhibited by the artist, a recent graduate of the center’s Visual Arts technical program.

The artist shared that the concept for the exhibition originated a year ago as her final graduation project. After receiving the invitation to exhibit the work, she set about structuring a multidisciplinary proposal that brings together pieces created using diverse techniques—such as ink drawing, collage, acrylic, oil, charcoal, and watercolor, as well as cardboard and clay sculpture.

“In this collection, I explore how cultures from around the world intertwine and seek to give meaning to the origins of humanity—approaching it through various forms, theories, and conspiracies. I want to understand how the divine merged with something else to shape us,” Yaz explained.

To officially mark the opening, Zoila Fernández, Artistic Director of the Mazatlán Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism, and Art, inaugurated the exhibition at 7:08 PM. In his message, he reiterated the institution’s commitment to the artistic community and the people of Mazatlán to continue enriching the soul and imagination through art.

“Cosmogonías: Tradition, History, and Conspiracy” will be open to the general public free of charge from September 4 to October 2—Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
