Accustomed to challenges and achieving success, mezzo-soprano Rose Ferreiro—a student of Maestro Enrique Patrón De Rueda at the Municipal Center for the Arts Opera Workshop—won Third Place (Female Category) and the Escenia Ensamble Award at the 10th Linus Lerner International Vocal Competition. At the awards ceremony, she received $1,000 and the opportunity to join an opera production by Escenia Ensamble, to be staged anywhere in Mexico or the world.
On August 29 and 30, the singer—a graduate of the Vocal Performance program at the Municipal Center for the Arts—performed at the Sala Julián Carrillo of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. She distinguished herself among more than 20 participants in a competition that brought together vocal talent from across the country and around the globe.
The event gathered young singers aged 20 to 36, offering them the chance to showcase their training, vocal technique, and artistic interpretation in a venue dedicated to promoting and developing operatic talent. They performed before an international jury comprising singers, conductors, musical directors, and stage directors, among others.
Following this achievement, Ferreiro expressed her gratitude to her teachers and coaches: “I am immensely grateful and very happy, but I have to keep studying for what comes next. I don’t actually have much time because I have to leave in two weeks; I have an audition at the Rome Opera House on September 16,” she said excitedly.
The competition is one of the most prominent international platforms for young opera singers; it is dedicated to artistic development, professional training, and the global promotion of new operatic voices, providing participants with key tools for their artistic growth.
For Rose Ferreiro, this participation marks a significant milestone in her artistic career and highlights the high level of preparation among the new generation of singers.
