Activities for the 2026 Mazatlán Song Festival will officially begin with the lecture “From Dance to Discourse: The Architecture of Bach’s Suites,” led by Frida Zebadua. The opening event is scheduled for September 26 at 5:00 PM at Casa Haas.
During the workshop, the performer and Camerata Mazatlán member will share insights gained while obtaining her music theory certification from Trinity College London. The primary goal is to analyze the formal structure and development of the dances within Bach’s Baroque compositions, offering theoretical perspectives to enhance musicians’ performances.
“We will analyze Bach’s suites—the most significant of the Baroque period. We will review the forms of these dances and the music theory of the era—a topic I frequently cover with my students, but one we will explore in greater depth here,” Zebadua noted.
The event will feature instrumentalists each day and is limited to 100 participants. Currently, 60 students from Mazatlán and other parts of Mexico have registered, a number expected to rise in the coming days.
