The Mazatlán Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism, and Art invites the public to the premiere of the stage production “CASTEL: The Universe of Desolation,” a standout event in the 2026 Mazatlán Cultural Festival program. The performance takes place on October 2 at 7:00 PM at the Ángela Peralta Theater.

Inspired by the celebrated novel *The Tunnel* (*El Túnel*) by Argentine writer Ernesto Sábato, the work explores the complex psychological journey of Juan Pablo Castel. Through an eclectic theatrical language that translates literature into physical movement, the piece immerses the audience in themes of isolation, emptiness, frustration, and the self-destructive nature of the human being—capable of destroying what they love most.

Direction and choreography are led by Víctor Manuel Ruiz (a member of the 2024–2027 National System of Art Creators). A leading figure in Mexican contemporary dance, Ruiz is renowned for combining physical power, poetic narrative, and dramatic lighting to craft profound emotional atmospheres.

Literature has long been a source of inspiration for Víctor Ruiz, who has explored translating language into movement across various projects. In *Castel*, he adapts the novel’s atmosphere of anguish and obsession, bringing the character’s emotional spiral to the stage through contemporary dance. The production features performances by Johnny Millán and Naima Toledo, dancers trained to embody complex emotional states.

Tickets: Available at the theater box office (Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM). Orchestra section: $350.00. First Balcony: $300.00, Second Balcony: $250.00, and Third Balcony: $200.00. Digital box office: 669 120 0020.

Don’t miss this unmissable artistic experience that transforms the fragility of thoughts and passion into pure movement.
