A total of 28 pieces make up the exhibition “A qué huele el arte de María” that will remain open to the public until January 5th at the Ángela Peralta Gallery.
The exhibition is the result of the Inclusive Movement effort “Bridging Borders” initiated in the United States by the Mazatlan fine artist Michael Dergar, founder of The Academy of Special Dreams Foundation and Dory Perdomo, Director of the BAUPRES Cultural Center, with the intention of making visible the art created by people with different abilities.
Present at the opening of the exhibition Leonid Baldobino explained that The Art of Mary is a project of inclusion, a project that is born with the soul and for the soul.
“It is a project where I committed to painting with a blind girl, it was a challenge and the challenge was how I could paint with María, so from there I had to study neuroscience, and the idea of painting with essences that had a direct relationship arose between the color and the smell, so that’s how we discovered that if I made María taste a coconut, every time she had the smell of coconut she would associate it with white, so that’s how the idea arose.”
This project began six years ago and throughout that time they have set up exhibitions in various places in Colombia; They arrived in Mazatlán at the invitation of fine artist Dory Perdomo.
María Elena Beltrán highlights that her art has allowed her to trust herself more, recognize her abilities, and be more outgoing.
In turn, Karen Martínez Macea, a Colombian, says she feels very lucky to be able to achieve the goals she sets for herself.
“Despite coming from a family of painters, I had never explored this line due to my condition, I thought it was a limitation, today I know it is not and I am passionate about drawing, I explore new techniques that allow me to demonstrate my talents and abilities. I am at a stage in my life where I feel very proud of my achievements and establish new ones because I know that it is possible to dream,” she says.
