Due to the vocal demand, the physical complexity and the dynamics in the constant costume changes, the MozArt show that will be presented this November 24th and 25th at the Ángela Peralta Theater at 8 p.m., will mean a challenge for the protagonists, agreed tenor Mario Canela and soprano Laura Leyva.

The show that brings to the stage the life and work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through four of his greatest pieces: The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Cosi fan Tutte and The Magic Flute, is a production by Escenia Ensamble that comes to the Festival Cultural Mazatlán 2023 in collaboration with the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán.

Canela affirms that the proposal is rich, fun, it is the fusion of such an incredible composer who in his time was considered divine for all his faculties, his way of seeing music, there will be a little of everything, dance, acting, singing.

“It is one of the biggest challenges I have had, I think the most important thing is to enter and leave with each character, find the correct psychology, understand yourself with them, be able to hug them, be empathetic, the challenge is in that, being able to identify yourself , being able to enter and leave while there is all the stress of the play, the costumes, the makeup, and at the same time dance and have people say, Look! They have a good time, when we are really in a bit of trouble and in a good way we have a lot of fun,” exclaimed Mario Canela.

The tenor originally from Tijuana, B.C., with academic training at the Opera Workshop of the Municipal Arts Center, will share the stage with Laura Leyva and the talents of the CMA, Rodolfo Ituarte, José Miguel Lora, Rose Ferreiro, Fernanda Osuna and in the musical part the Camerata Mazatlán will be directed by maestro Sergio Freeman.

For soprano Laura Leyva, the staging is special, a real challenge because Mozart is very transparent and not easy to sing, and each of the characters shown in MozArt at first glance seem more sophisticated than they really are, but in reality they are characters from everyday life with whom the public can identify or other people can identify with them.

“It’s different from everything I’ve done, it’s even a little closer to musical theater because they also did choreographies for us, we are six opera singers, some with jazz and ballet training and others who have never danced in their lives and they just put us on. to perform pirouettes in a choreography, it is very exciting to change characters, the transition with the costume changes, has been a very satisfactory process and we are very excited to premiere,” concluded the singer.

Soprano Fernanda Osuna spoke about the process prior to assembly.
“Since February, before the vocal and stage aspects, we began a very in-depth investigation from the concept and the theatrical structure of what the production would encompass.”

We also had an analysis and an investigation of what would be the central axis of this work, which was Mozart, we covered his entire life, his birth, his first steps, his relationship with his parents, his first commissions, his precarious health until his death, he added.

All this in a historical and social, political and religious context, and we also cover those who were his librettists, who in this case were Lorenzo da Ponte and Schikaneder, and the relationship they had with Mozart and how it influenced him to compose his work
