Researcher Samuel Antonio Chiquete appeared in Dialogues of our history” to talk about “The influence of Jazz on the Sinaloan drum.”

Before an audience that followed his talk attentively, the researcher explained the reasons that led him to delve into the study of jazz and its origins in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, a musical genre with widespread influence in several cities even reaching Sinaloa.

Samuel Antonio Chiquete cited interviews that he captured in his book, some of which are journalistic compilations, while in others he had the opportunity to chat with composers, bandleaders, and musicians to draw his own conclusions.

He commented that in the middle of the last century the Sinaloan bands had times with successes in cumbias, alegres sones, among others that had musical similarities with songs performed by the ‘big bands’ in those years.

To demonstrate to the public some of these peculiarities, in the local sound they played songs like “Cinco de chicles”, “Flor de San Ignacio”, which sounded very similar to some jazz pieces.

At the end of his talk, he began the round of questions and answers and the participation of the listeners was wide, who were able to dispel their doubts.
