With more than 50 musicians on stage directed by maestro Sergio Freeman, multimedia production and attractive visual surprises, this Saturday, June 3rd at 8:00 p.m. at the Ángela Peralta Theater “Scheherazade….music for a thousand nights” will be presented.

The great concert of the Spring Season 2023 produced by the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán, will offer in its repertoire one of the most iconic pieces of the orchestral repertoire “Scheherazade” by Russian composer Rimsky Korsakov, based on the story A Thousand and One nights and the overture to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Felix Mendelssohn.

Scheherazade performed by the Camerata Mazatlán and guest musicians will be a truly impressive concert that will flow under the baton of the guest conductor Sergio Freeman, who despite his youth has a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Universidad Veracruzana and is about to complete his Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting and Opera at Arizona State University.

Interviewed by José Luis Echeagaray in Formula Noticias, the young Mazatlan director commented that “Scheherazade” is a work that he has done before.

“One always wants to redo these pieces that are unique and do not have an expiration date in time,” said Sergio Freeman, proud of having chosen the academic route to dedicate himself full time to classical music.

The Mazatlecan conductor makes a timely invitation to enjoy ‘Scheherazade…music for a thousand nights’, a project that will bring him back to the stage after having invested many hours studying the score and directing the orchestra musicians for five days of arduous trials.

“Really, come to this concert because it is a great effort on the part of the Instituto de Cultura (of Mazatlán) to offer these types of first-rate shows, we have more than 50 musicians on stage,” he stressed.

Excited because there are only a few hours left to offer the public one of his favorite pieces, the notable conductor shares that the main piece of the concert is inspired by the famous tale One Thousand and One Nights.

“Many people don’t know but that’s where the stories of Aladdin, Alibaba, and others that we all know also come from.”

Regarding the author of Scheherazade, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Maestro Freeman expressed that Russian composers undoubtedly have great importance in the development of music for orchestra, much is owed to them, they have a very particular way of writing music for orchestra and its sound is really impressive.
