MozART spectacular, hilarious, dazzles the Mazatlan public

Mazatlán, Sinaloa, November 26, 2023.- A young and talented cast led dizzyingly towards the time and context of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life during the two performances of MozART, an opera – cabaret created by Ragnar Conde, successfully presented in the Ángela Peralta Theater within the programming of the Mazatlán Cultural Festival 2023.

Under a hilarious narrative structure, with a spectacular three-dimensional effect stage by Pedro Pazarán that is transformed with the dazzling projections by Chava Banuva to transport the viewer to different atmospheres with a touch of humor, MozArt managed to make the public know and recognize the story of life of this musical genius.

The show began with The Magic Flute with musical accompaniment by the Camerata Mazatlán that is never left out, on this occasion under the baton of the Mazatlan instrumentalist and conductor Sergio Freeman, who also directed the interpretation of the works Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro.

Laura Leyva – soprano II – captivated when she performed The Queen of the Night, an aria from Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute; The singer from Culiacán, Sinaloa, accompanied her performance with innovative costumes and a very genuine mask, an essential complement for the audience to give her loud applause.

In MozArt, the soloists broke the paradigm that opera singers have little movement on stage, because to the surprise of the audience they performed gymnastic exercises, jumped rope in a duet and there were dizzying costume changes.

In this staging, the most representative pieces of each Mozart opera were brought to the stage and at the same time the performers narrated and transformed into the various characters of each work using the minimum of scenic elements and more than 30 costumes and wigs designed by the maestro Gabriel Ancira.

The narrative was in Spanish, between fine jokes and without ridicule. MozArt gave clear and sufficient evidence that the method and the way in which they contextualize these great works yield results of enthusiasm and interest in the viewer.

Rodolfo Ituarte – Baritone – performed and interpreted his characters with an eloquent seal, like a good Tijuana native.

Rose Ferreiro – Mezzo-soprano- and Fernanda Osuna – Soprano I- through their voice and performance managed to position the female talent that Mozart already realized in those times, since in their work the importance of women in society and in the social struggles.

José Lora –Bass Baritone- was the narrator and conductor of the work; without leaving aside his voice, his mischief and tranquility made time travel first class, his diction and stage movement convinced.

Mario Canela – tenor – did a formidable job in comedy, but when it came to moving us to tragedy in an artistic sense, he was too good, he performed the aria “Il mio Tesoro” in a standard of respect and brilliance.

MozArt, a musical show that has to be appreciated and seen, a staging full of details, full of eloquence, but above all of young national talent, was presented by the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán in within the framework of the Festival Cultural Mazatlán 2023.
