Under the artistic direction of Elisa Carrillo and Cuauhtémoc Nájera, on Thursday, March 23rd at 8:00 p.m., the National Dance Company of Mexico will perform at the Ángela Peralta Theater with the staging of “Don Quijote”, a choreographic adaptation and version by the CND of the original by Marius Petipa, with music by Ludwig Minkus.
The CND magnifies the programming of Spring Season 2023 as it is positioned among the best companies in the country.
The show that will be presented in Mazatlán is a renewed adaptation of Don Quijote, a ballet inspired by a classic of universal literature with the performance of artists of international stature such as the first dancers Ana Elisa Mena, Mayuko Nihei, Blanca Ríos, Yoalli Sousa, Argenis Montalvo and Eric Rodriguez.
In the plot, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza wander before the colorful crowd. Kitri, daughter of the innkeeper Lorenzo, and her boyfriend, the barber Basilio, are among them. The rendezvous of her lovers is suddenly interrupted by her father, who introduces her to the rich old Gamache as the betrothed she has chosen. In vain the young make plans; Lorenzo is obstinate with that wedding. Don Quixote, who thinks he recognizes his beloved Dulcinea in Kitri, intervenes and helps the lovers to flee.
Kitri is dragged to the altar, where she will be forced to marry old Gamache. Basilio, desperate, breaks into the forced celebration. In front of all the guests, he pretends out of spite to attack himself. Kitri, noticing this, humors him to stop him, with the help of the hidalgo, the forced relation. Her father, Don Lorenzo, feeling guilty for what has happened to the young boy, is willing that if he survives, the two lovers can consummate their love.
Once his mission is accomplished, the “knight” and his faithful squire set out in search of new adventures…
