La Camerata Mazatlán offers a brilliant concert with a galactic ending.

Magic, emotion, suspense, nostalgia and adventures on earth with a galactic ending was experienced by the public through “Cinema Espectacular”, a musical and visual journey inspired by the soundtracks of the highest-grossing films in world cinematography by Camerata Mazatlán, under the direction of guest director Sergio Freeman.

The production of the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán presented in Spring Season 2023, began with the classic 20th Overture by Alfred Newmann, a famous fanfare from Century Fox studios.

The program progressed towards the film music of ‘Indiana Jones’ with which John Williams managed to create the perfect atmosphere for this great adventure story.

The soundtrack of ‘Cinema Paradiso’ written by Ennio Morricone accompanied images of the Italian classic. The music is a hymn to youth, memories, first loves and friendship and was performed by the Camerata Mazatlán while the audience took a nostalgic look at the past through the projection of the film.

The night dedicated to film music was just beginning, the expectant public enjoyed each performance and did not take their eyes off the screen while they remembered, and they were once again moved by the stories that have marked international cinema.

The soundtrack of E.T. the extraterrestrial composed by the great John Williams could not be missing and the emotion of the respectable overflowed while the instrumentalists interpreted the melody and the scene of the bicycle chase in which the young people try to escape from the police and take E.T. back to the spaceship.

By the same composer, Camerata Mazatlán performed the soundtrack of the successful Harry Potter saga. Fans celebrated the character’s entrance to dress the conductor in the robe and magic wand in homage to the world’s most famous magician.

Then came the moment of suspense, the hour of death wrapped in the slow and harmonious melodies of Nino Rota for the movie “The Godfather”, the violent scenes flowed with the sounds of the orchestra that brought forth one of the most brilliant soundtracks. and box office hits in film history.

Turning 360 degrees, the orchestra interpreted Elton John’s musical composition for the film ‘The Lion King’, a fusion of Western popular music and characteristic African sounds and rhythms; the audience was captivated by the soundtrack and the projection of the film that begins with the red of the rising sun on the African savannah and progresses to the king’s rock and the scene where Simba and Mufasa play.

The music from Alan Menken’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ led the viewer into the inner world of the castle and accompanied the waltz scene of the delicate Belle, a young woman determined to ensure that her father can escape from the clutches of the evil Beast, man – fierce but noble of heart.

From the world of fantasy, the program moved towards the musical suspense of Lalo Schifrin for the film ‘Mission Impossible’; the melodies conveyed intrigue and excitement that escalated in Alan Silvestri’s ‘The Avengers’.

In the last section of the concert, they enjoyed the musical accompaniment and the images of Frozen, a frozen adventure bathed in white paper that fell from the third balcony and scattered around the theater simulating snowflakes.

After the images of Miguel Rivera, a boy who dreams of being a famous musician like his idol, the late singer Ernesto de la Cruz and his great-grandmother, the tender Mama Coco accompanied the performance of Michael Giacchino’s soundtrack for ‘Coco’, one of the endearing films of recent years inspired by the Mexican festival of the Day of the Dead.

The penultimate performance of the program went through the music of ‘Star Wars’ (John Williams), characterized by the Imperial March and the sound of brass to accompany the theme of the galactic empire of Darth Vader, a character who, sword in hand, defiantly crossed one of the corridors inside the theater while Yoda, the most powerful Yedi of all, managed to focus his eyes on the stage.

Cinema Espectacular closed brilliantly with the film music from Hans Zimmer’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ accompanied by the projection of Captain Jack Sparrow and the appearance on stage of Davy Jones (played by Victor Gallardo) the most intimidating villain of the pirates, who manages to take a person from the audience hostage.

At the end of the concert, the public gave intense applause to the members of the orchestra and the director, in gratitude as an encore they performed a piece from Star Wars giving the musical program a galactic finale.

When going out to the lobby, some spectators took photos with the most emblematic characters of international cinema such as La Bella (Casandra Navarro); Miguel (Christopher Tejeda); Davy Jones (Victor Gallardo); the Lion King (Isaí Cervantes); Harry Potter (Enrique Mendoza) and Darth Vader (Guillermo Santillan).
