• After the premiere of Óxido and the revival of Minimal, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in the Main Hall of the Palacio de Bellas Artes

• (Delphos) it went to where the seashore allowed him to see a more open horizon, perhaps more complex, perhaps more challenging, said the head of Inbal

Mazatlán, Sinaloa, July 31, 2023.- The Ministry of Cultura of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal) celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Delfos Danza Contemporánea company with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, the presentation of Óxido and Minimal in the Main Hall of the country’s largest cultural venue, and the photographic exhibition Movimiento Eterna.
Within the framework of the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Delfos Danza Contemporánea company, the General Director of Inbal, Lucina Jiménez López, recognized the visionary, humanitarian, atmospheric, innovative and passionate position of this group that created a beacon for Mexican dance.

Between applause, the head of the Inbal congratulated Raúl Rico González, General Director of the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán, who accompanied this commitment with Delfos in all its dimensions from the beginning. “Doing it from a local government has a double value, because we know that municipalities sometimes are in a very difficult way, so when it is done with commitment and passion, that value is doubled.”

Accompanied by Deputy General Director of Fine Arts, Héctor Romero Lecanda; National Dance Coordinator, Nina Serratos; researcher Patricia Cardona and journalist Rosario Manzanos, the General Director of Inbal commented that Delfos broke with centralization, “it went to where the seashore allowed it to see a more open horizon, perhaps more complex, perhaps more challenging, but ultimately more open.”

“They broke their own borders to not only create dance with a high demand, discipline and rigor, they also did it with great commitment, breaking continental borders because, with more than 90 choreographies throughout the world, (Delfos) has enriched the gaze of Mexican dance from there, but not happy, not happy only with that border, they also decided that dance could be part of the daily life of more than 10,000 girls and boys in areas where dance has built hope, where it has allowed to generate internal architecture, of conviction; in such a way that we are here to celebrate, to still give thanks with the emotion of two choreographic proposals that teach us that we can break the borders that separate us, that we can also get up from our own hell and walk together, together, as a humanity that can move on on this planet.”

We are all these boats: Claudia Lavista
Dancer, choreographer, teacher and manager committed to dance and music, Claudia Lavista thanked the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature for opening this space to contemporary dance and said that, for her, what 30 years of work imply is It seems like getting on a boat, because “I feel that dance in Mexico is an accumulation of many boats and here are many colleagues who run companies, groups and collectives. We are all these ships, in which the most important thing is its crew; For me, celebrating these 30 years is above all celebrating people”.

Finally, she celebrated the presence of Raúl Rico, because Mazatlán has been his home for 25 years; likewise, she thanked INBAL for believing in them, it is a great privilege, because “It is required that they trust you.”

For his part, choreographer and dancer, Víctor Manuel Ruiz, commented: “I am very grateful for this significant moment for technicians and for dance. Today we celebrate the 30th anniversary of that adventure that was intended to be a playful game, where jumping into the void was a premise; Fortunately, many people, friends, colleagues and relatives joined the game of contemplating these unfathomable landscapes with us”.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlánt, Raúl Rico González, thanked INBAL for the night. He assured that Delfos Danza shared with the community of Mazatlán “a different way of seeing the arts, much freer, much more rebellious, more colorful and suddenly the traditional performing arts, such as opera, theater, classical music, were seen transcended by the presence of this company”.

Óxido and Minimal
The group directed by Claudia Lavista and Víctor Manuel Ruiz performed the premiere of Óxido and Minimal, with the special participation of Safa Ensamble de Percussiones, and multidisciplinary artists Aurelio Palomino and Renato González.

Óxido, a piece by Claudia Lavista, is a stage reflection on the ability of human beings to transform what is apparently decadent into a possibility of new life. While Minimal, choreographed by Víctor Manuel Ruiz, takes as its starting point the ritual of the Deer Dance to pose a metamorphosis of the dancer who emulates a wild animal and an individual who survived confinement by COVID-19.

As part of the celebration, the public was able to appreciate the exhibition ‘Eternal Movement’, with photographs by Martín Gavica, with which they pay tribute to the three decades of existence of Delfos Danza Contemporánea.

The group was founded with the aim of generating a space for creation, exchange, training and communication through contemporary dance, through an eclectic, theatrical and visual stage language, in constant search for new narratives.

With a repertoire made up of more than 90 pieces in various formats and more than 60 collaborative projects, it has been presented in theaters and festivals in Canada, the United States, Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Italy , Spain, Greece, Korea, Santo Domingo, Singapore, South Africa, Lebanon, Algeria, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Mexico.
