The international tenor will close Spring Season 2023 with a flourish

When you are outside of Mexico and listen to Mexican music, your soul fills and for me singing vernacular music is a pleasure, at the age of 12, I began to interpret songs by Vicente Fernández, José Alfredo Jiménez and Martín Urieta, at the age of 15 I began to study opera, so interpreting Mexican music with mariachi is like going back to my roots, says Carlos Osuna.

The tenor with a brilliant career in the world of opera will perform this Thursday, July 20th at 8:00 p.m. at the Ángela Peralta Theater.

His concert “Así suena el mariachi” was born from the desire to interpret Mexican music after 13 years of living in Europe and devoting his life to lyrical singing, a musical genre that opened the doors of the international stage for him and keeps him active as a member of the Soloist Ensemble of the Vienna State Opera.

For me, being able to sing this type of music is a pleasure because in the operatic career we sing in different languages, so it is necessary to sing in our language, from there the idea of doing a Mexican music concert with mariachi was born and I think that all the people who come to see this show will be very happy, says the artist from Mazatlan.

To give life to ¡Así suena el mariachi” the Traditional Mexican Ensemble directed by Samuel Murillo will go on stage; the Ballet Folklorico of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán under the leadership of Javier Arcadia; members of the Ángela Peralta Chior and mezzo-soprano Sarah Holcombe.

On the participation of Sarah Holcombe from Mazatlan, possessor of a wide vocal range and great stage domain, Carlos Osuna highlights her artistic value and the story of her friendship that unites him with her.

“Although she is younger than me, we started with the same singing teacher, Cristina Vadillo and Yolanda Urquijo, Sarita’s mother was the director of the school where I studied.”

“It fills me with great pleasure to know that we are going to sing a song called ‘Perdón’ by Pedro Flores, it was always sung by Vicente Fernández and Alejandro Fernández, they made it famous, and I have never heard it with a man and a woman and she and I are going to sing it together and I think it sounds very nice, so I am very pleased that she is singing with me on stage”.

On his return to Mazatlán to close Spring Season 2023 convened by the Municipal Instituto de Cultura with a flourish, the tenor Carlos Osuna responds:

“Going home for me is a very big responsibility, here I feel more nervous and committed than in any other place where I sing, because the public that comes to see me is made up of family, friends, people who have seen me since I was 12 or 15, they saw me emerge here, make my first steps, and 20 years later they are still present to see my evolution as an artist”.

“As an artist I want to give my best, I want to do my job well to please all those people who have seen the evolution of my career, it is a great responsibility, but at the same time an honor and a great pleasure.”

“For me, returning to the Ángela Peralta Theater where I have already sung so many times, so many concerts, is like a dream come true, every time I come there is a special feeling, and I am always proud to return to my land, I consider myself one hundred percent Mazatlecan, that is, also from the heart, because there are people who are born here but do not have the roots I do”.

Mazatlan Carlos Osuna made his first steps in the Ángela Peralta Choir under the tutelage of maestro Antonio González, later he followed the advice of maestro Enrique Patrón de Rueda and went to study in Mexico City with a scholarship from the International Society of Mexican Art Values (SIVAM); Later, supported by maestro Denise O’Neil, he traveled to the city of Cardiff in the United Kingdom where he continued his musical preparation, a year and a half later he auditioned and managed to enter the Basel Opera Studio in Switzerland and after a year he was called by the Vienna State Opera, to which he has belonged for 13 years.
