Casa Haas hosted a transcendental cultural evening starring the Franco-Mexican writer Sylvia Schneider, who highlighted the legacy of the writer Alfonso Reyes (1889-1959) from Monterrey, one of the most important writers in the Spanish language.

 

“Sentimientos de la Poesía de Alfonso Reyes” was the title of the literary program of Sylvia Schneider who spoke about the monumental work of her great-grandfather and read her own poems.

 

Accompanied at the table of honor by the activist and writer Juan Alfonso Mejía López, and by the Mazatlecan writer Karina Castillo, Schneider paid tribute to her great-grandfather, author of a great essay and prose work.

 

After the presentation of Mejía López y Schneider, the literary activity began, and the writer began to talk about her great-grandfather, projecting her family tree starting with his father, General Bernardo Reyes, a prominent Mexican military and politician who was the Governor of Nuevo León and during his tenure, the state achieved important economic, industrial and social progress.

 

To remember the work of Alfonso Reyes, Karina Castillo read “Ninfas en la niebla” and “Sol de Monterrey”, among other short stories and poems by the notable Mexican writer.

 

Centered on his work, the winner of the Jules Ferry literary prize in the novel category for “La Ballade des aujourd’hui,” was the first book she tackled, and she underscored her excitement at the award and what it meant to her career.

 

she continued with the presentation of “12 poems in scale”, where two poems were read in Spanish and French to continue with the reading of “They feed on the sun”, her first crime novel that has been well received in France and concluded with “L’incendiaire de Notre-Dame” (The arsonist of Notre-Dame), her second detective novel.

 

After the large participation of the readers who asked questions, the great-granddaughter of the writer Alfonso Reyes responded kindly and shared her love for literature, since she carries it in her veins and stressed that it was her honor to present her work in Mazatlán.

 

At the end of the event, the speaker received a recognition from maestro Enrique Vega Ayala, chronicler of the city from the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán, for her valuable participation in sharing her work and part of the legacy of notable writer Alfonso Reyes with the attendees at Casa Haas.
