Something old, something new, something borrowed, a little jazz

With a proposal that ranges from jazz music, blues, classical music by Schubert, Beethoven, Charles Camille Saint-Saëns, to the pop of Bob Dylan and the popular music of Steve Goodman and Violeta Parra, the Ángela Peralta Theater and Casa Haas will host the Sunday concerts of the XIII Gordon Campbell Season from January 7th to March 3rd, 2024.

The program in which musicians from Mexico and international guests participate was announced this Monday at a press conference held at Casa Haas, chaired by maestro Gordon Campbell and the General Director of the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán, Raúl Rico González, accompanied by Guianeya Román.

The next Gordon Campbell Season will offer eight programs presented in 10 Sunday concerts that will take place at the Ángela Peralta Theater at 12:00 p.m. and Casa Haas at 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

“We celebrate such a rich, varied program with performers of international quality,” said Rico González at the beginning of the presentation.

Created by maestro Gordon Campbell with the purpose of giving continuity to the port’s musical programming and expanding the leisure options for the Mazatlan public, tourists and foreign residents who usually attend concerts, the Campbell Season was born in 2012, and since the project has grows every year with the support of the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán.

“The Campbell Season is part of the CULTURA offering during January, February and March in Mazatlán and I feel very privileged that its programming has been so accepted and so popular for so long, it is a pride to present the thirteenth version with very interesting surprises,” commented maestro Gordon Campbell.

The renowned musician and orchestra director thanked the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán because thanks to its support, organization, equipment, promotion and facilities, the Gordon Campbell Season is held in this city every year, attending the concerts has become a tradition for the local and foreign audiences and among musicians from Mexico and other countries there is curricular interest in participating in its annual programming.

The inauguration will be on January 7tth at the Ángela Peralta Theater. We are still going strong, it will be a spectacular concert; an uplifting selection of songs about life, gratitude and perseverance performed by Grammy winner Doug Cotler – world-class entertainment – and Lori Patterson. It will be an incredible start to the season. A program with some of their original songs and interpretations of Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, among others.

On January 14th at Casa Haas at 12:00 and 5:00 p.m. the Aguascalientes chamber group Ars Sonoui performs with Beethoven and Weber. During 2023, this group has had a concert tour through different venues in the country; With them, maestro Gordon Campbell returns to his roots and will participate as a cornist in that ensemble. They will perform Beethoven’s Sextet and Joseph Miroslav Weber’s Septet. For Brahms, this work was the most impressive in the 19th century repertoire.

On January 21st, at the Ángela Peralta Theater, Maestro Campbell will lovingly receive his old friends, the Rondalla of the Educational Sector of Culiacán, who present a program ¡Mexicanísimo!

On January 28th, at the Ángela Peralta Theater, the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán allows maestro Gordon Campbell to direct the Camerata Mazatlán. It will be a unique presentation of The Carnaval of the Animals by Camille Saint Saëns.

On February 4th, at Casa Haas at 12:00 and 5:00 p.m., the concert “Cornos, horns y mucho jazz” (Just for fun, Horns and Jazz) will be offered; the debut of the Cuarteto de Cornos Campbell [Campbell Horn Quartet], with compositions in the style of blues and jazz; Of course, Maestro Campbell will play again.

After Carnaval Mazatlán, the Campbell Season returns on February th to the Ángela Peralta Theater with new guests “The Sectionals”, a vocal ensemble from Minnesota that will debut in Mazatlán and in Mexico with a repertoire of blues and jazz, their presence is a gift for the port.

Maestro Gordon Campbell will direct the Camerata Mazatlán on February 25th at the Ángela Peralta Theater. It will feature international guitarist Rodrigo Neftali who will perform the Aranjuez Concerto and Joaquín Rodrigo’s Fantasía para un hombre gentil.

On March 3rd, the Gordon Campbell Season 2024 ends at the Ángela Peralta Theater with two of the most acclaimed orchestral pieces, Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
